Iron Dog Snowmobile Race
Friday, Feb 17, 2012 - Trail Class Race begins at Big Lake, Alaska.
Sunday, Feb 19, 2012 - Pro Class Race begins at Big Lake, Alaska.
Wednesday, Feb 22, 2012 - Halfway Race Ceremonies & Banquet (Held in Nome) at the National Guard Armory at 6:00pm.
The Iron Dog, known as the World’s Longest, Toughest Snowmobile Race is divided into two classes. The Pro Class is a 2,000 mile race that begins in Big Lake, Alaska on the third Sunday of every February, and ends in Fairbanks. The Recreation Class begins two days prior to the Pro Class, and they finish in Nome. On the Wednesday following the race start, there is a halfway banquet in Nome which is held by the Iron Dog committee every year. For more information contact Iron Dog Headquarters at (907) 563-4414. Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race
Saturday, March 3, 2012 – Ceremonial Start in Anchorage, Alaska
Sunday, March 4, 2012 –Race Restart begins in Willow, Alaska.
The Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, also known as the "Last Great Race on Earth" begins in Anchorage, Alaska, and ends in Nome. The first musher usually arrives into Nome about nine or 10 days after the official race start. The ceremonial start takes place in Anchorage, Alaska on the first Saturday of every March, and the official start begins the following day in Willow, Alaska. Iditarod Awards Banquet

Held at the Nome Recreation Center
The Iditarod Awards Banquet usually takes place the third Sunday of March. Banquet tickets may be purchased only after the first musher completes the race, and tickets cannot be reserved or purchased in advance. Tickets will be sold at Arctic Trading Post, located on Front Street, right next to the Finish Line, and at the Mini Convention Center (Nome’s Iditarod Headquarters). Fireman’s Carnival

Sponsored by the Nome Volunteer Fire Department, this carnival is held annually at the Nome Recreation Center on the first Saturday of every December. Raffles and Bingo are played by folks of all ages, and winners take home hams, turkeys, stuffed animals, toys, household items or the grand prize of a snowmobile!
